Barton Volleyball solid in final day of Odessa Tournament, returns home with four victories

The Barton Community College volleyball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday wrapping up weekend play at the Odessa College Tournament in Odessa, College.   The Cougars took care of Cedar Valley College in straight sets 25-23, 25-11, and 25-22 to begin the final day before concluding the unbeaten weekend with a comeback five set victory over New Mexico Military Institute 25-23, 24-26, 22-25, 25-18, and 15-9.  Leaving Texas with the four wins and improving to 13-3 on the season, Barton will continue its eight match in ten days stretch with three conference matches looming this week.   Beginning and ending with home Jayhawk matches, the Cougars begin with Colby Community College on Monday, a Wednesday trip to Pratt Community College before winding up the week Saturday versus No. 20 ranked Hutchinson Community College.   First serve times are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. except for Saturday's match-up with the Blue Dragons which will begin at 2:00 p.m. 

The second wave of Cougars did most of the damage in the morning sweep of Cedar Valley with Shayde LeClair, Averie Warehime, and Brittany Ostmeyer leading a balanced .272 attack with seven kills and three blocks each.  Lydia Konrade led with eleven digs while Jeri Garcia and Leah Fisher were each credited with eleven assists. 

With the second wave of Cougars taking care of the morning match, the first wave did its job in the afternoon match coming out victorious.  Nathalia Gouveia led three Cougars in double-digit kills with nineteen on a .341 attack percentage with Olivia Naccarato close behind with seventeen on an even better .371 percentage.  Monique Oliveira, who played limited action against Cedar Valley, recorded her third double-double of the weekend and seventh of the freshman's season knocking down ten kills while leading the team with fifteen digs and second with six blocks.  Warehime also had another solid outing with nine kills to go along with tying Naccarato for the team lead in blocks with seven each.  Carolina Goncalves captained the attack with forty-five assists to finish one shy of the freshman's career high of forty-six.
