Celine Riddle and Trevon Hamer named USTFCCCA National Field Athletes of the Year; Cougars accumulate 31 All-America performances
Celine Riddle and Trevon Hamer of the Barton Community College track and field program headlined post-season indoor awards distributed by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Both were earlier named the KJCCC/Region 6 Championships' Field Athletes of the Meet and most recently the Central Region Field Athletes of the Year as Riddle earned the program's 6th straight Central Region field honor with Hamer's region award the second straight for the men's and fifth in the last eight seasons.
Riddle capped her freshman indoor season sweeping both the KJCCC/Region 6 long and triple jump crowns before most recently placing national runner-up in the triple jump and winning the Cougars' second straight long jump national title. Beginning her national debut Friday soaring to a program 6th best 6.21m (20-4.50) mark then followed on Saturday with a program 7th best 12.60m (41-4.25) triple jump mark in finishing runner-up.
Hamer began his sophomore post-season competition defending his KJCCC/Region 6 triple jump title to also join his runner-up spot in the long jump.
On the national stage, Hamer repeated the placings, marking a program 6th best 7.75m (25-5.25) runner-up placing in the long jump before concluding his indoor season on a program 5th best mark of 16.47m (54-0.50) to win his second consecutive gold.
For good measure Hamer also competed in the 60m dash, etching his name among an illustrious list of previous Barton speedsters by clocking a program 5th fastest 6.64 time in prelims before a slightly slower 6.67 in finals to place 3rd concluding his 24-point national performance.
As a squad at the national meet, both women and men exceeded its ranking combining for 32 season or personal best efforts and 13 etchings within the respective program's all-time top ten lists.
On the women's side, the Cougars brought home national runner-up hardware marking the 12th straight year finishing within the top six teams as 15 of their 20 entries scored points with 9 placing in the top two including three earning individual national titles.
The Cougar men qualified 15 entries, seven scoring points towards a 7th place team finish to lead all fellow Region 6 squads at the indoor concluding event in placing among the Top-7 for the 11th straight season.
