Adams’ national qualifying performance leads limited Barton track and field team at Steve Miller Invitational.
As most of the Barton Community College track and field program taking the week off, a four-pack of Cougars competed Friday in the Steve Miller Invitational held at Kansas State University's Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track in Manhattan, Kansas.
Simeon Adams was the lone Cougar male entry, utilizing the training opportunity against the four-year level heavy 800m competition to reach nationally qualifying standards by clocking a 1:53.52 in placing 6th overall.
Adams, who is also qualified in the 600m, brings the squad's total to 15 national tickets spread across seven individual Cougars.
On the women's side, a trio of Cougars competed in the equally heavy four-year level of competition.
In the first track event of the day, Kennidra Spigner placed 12th overall in the four-year level heavy 200m competition clocking a 25.89.
An hour later Narissa McPherson, who is already nationally qualified in the 600m and member of the top ranked 4x400m relay team, placed 11th competing the 600-yard event with a 1:28.45.
Also already qualified and currently ranked fifth in the 60m hurdles, Ty'yanah Adams placed 10th on the day with an 8.88.
Altogether, the women's squad has 13 individuals racking up 18 national qualifying performances plus the nation's top ranked 4x400m relay team.
The four will join the rest of the squad next weekend competing in the two-day Tyson Invitational beginning Friday held in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for final preparation for the KJCCC/Region 6 Indoor Championships taking place February 22-23 at Pittsburg State University.
