Hassnaoui breaks 31-year program record, Smith also enters top ten list leading Barton track and field results in Arkansas #GoBarton

Barton track and field 2024 Tyson Invitational results

Records are meant to be broken and Saturday at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Sanae Hassnaoui of the Barton Community College women's track and field team broke the program's best mile run clocking that had stood for thirty-one years atop the chart.

The freshman entered the event having already clocked the third best time at the squad's second meet of the season, but in her second time was the charm in shaving off nearly three seconds in clocking a 4:47.99 stoppage for 7th place at the Invite to break the record while also posting the NJCAA's second fastest time ever.

Standout Janice Turner previously held the school record at 4:49.62 set during her 1993 NJCAA Championship title run season with Hassnaoui's time additionally moving into the second spot on the national list by a second but five ticks behind the fastest time set in 2018.

In addition to Hassnaoui's best, overall on the weekend the program posted fifteen personal or season best efforts with the men adding another national qualifier.

Of the women's ten personal bests, Keliza Smith posted two of them in her big weekend including a program 9th fastest 200m time of 24.05 to finish 23rd. The freshman, who was already nationally qualified in the event, also bettered her 60m qualifying time with a stoppage of 7.44 in placing 11th.

On the men's side Wanyae Belle added his name to the Cougars' national ticket list bringing their total to twenty-six by clocking a 200m personal best 21.68 in placing 30th overall.

Adrian Nethersole joined Belle as one of five new best efforts from the weekend for the Cougar men, improving his 800 national qualified standing with a 1:52.22 crossing to just miss the program's Top-10 all-time list.

Barton has a short week of preparation ahead before traveling to Pittsburg, Kansas, for the two-day KJCCC/Region 6 Indoor Championships set to begin on Saturday.
