Barton track and field Stan Scott Memorial results

The Barton Community College track and field team program opened the 2024 indoor season with a bang Saturday competing at the Stan Scott Memorial hosted by Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

The Cougars racked up twenty-one national qualifying performance in the one day meet while etching four impacts on the storied top ten list.

On the women's side, the Cougars recorded eight qualifying performances from six individuals led by the debut of Sanae Hassnaoui punching her national ticket twice beginning by winning the 1000 meters in a program 6th best time-time of 2:56.76. Three hours later the freshman nearly pulled off two titles but crossed a mere .06 seconds too late in settling for second place in the 800m at 2:18.40.

Nine Cougar men chalked up twelve performance standards for the national meet, in addition to, the squad's 4x400m relay team.

Christopher Young picked up where he left last season, posting one of the Cougars' four program list impacts by winning the shot put by nearly five feet. Marking an 18.40m throw, Young's foot improvement moved the sophomore into second all-time.

Young began the meet with a personal best in the earlier weight throw competition by placing 5th at 17.40m. Fellow sophomore Christopher Crawford joined Young with two qualifications on the day by placing 6th at 16.46m before capping his day with a 4th place in the shot put at 16.53m to edge out fellow qualifier Ricardo Hayles as the freshman finished in 5th at 16.54m.

Joining Young in earning Barton's other first place finish, freshman Trevon Hamer won the triple jump competition in a 15.70m mark that landed just outside the program's top ten best acheivements.

Hamza Belkhalfi almost gave Barton a sweep of the 1000m events by clocking a program 4th best time of 2:26.24 but the freshman was edged by .16 seconds by a Texas Tech junior.

Barton made it through both of the 60m hurdle qualifying rounds in national qualifying times, Kay-Lagay Clarke placing 6th in the women's race in 8.93 and Bryce Southerland finishing runner-up in the men's race.

Sophomore transfer Adrian Nethersole also made an impressive Barton uniform debut leading two Cougars in national qualifying performances in the 600 yard run in a 10th best time of 1:10.99 as true sophomore Revon Williams' first attempt at the event clocked a 1:11.83 in placing 8th and garnering a national ticket.

Barton will stay in state for hits next meet coming up Saturday in Topeka, Kansas, competing in the Washburn Rust Buster at the Washburn University Indoor Athletic Facility.
