Barton track and field continues the process at Grizzly Classic #GoBarton

A limited squad of thirteen athletes from the Barton Community College track and field program continued its process of reaching post-season aspirations with a competitive Saturday's work at the Grizzly Classic hosted by Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas.

Barton will assemble its full squad for its next meet taking place April 22-23 in Norman, Oklahoma, for the John Jacobs Invitational.

Six members of the top ranked women's team competed in the one day limited event with three achieving personal best efforts.

Ida Seesay took on the short sprints, setting a new best in a 9th place 100m time of 12.65 and just falling .13 short of a new best in the 200m with a 25.22 time to take 3rd place.

Malama Toure had a busy day of three events in preparation of competing in the heptathlon in post-season, setting a new best in the 200m at 27.35 for 18th, adding in a 2nd place long jump of 4.93m and a 7th place in the high jump at 1.47m.

Also a multi-event performer, Jasmine Carson reached a personal best 1.41m high jump to place 5th and finished 2nd in the triple jump at 9.80m.

Nia Robinson won the women's lone first place of the day, rising to a 1.67m height to win better the high jump field with Molly Norris' 1.43m placing fourth ahead of Carson's 5th and Toure's 7th.

The lone Cougar in the 100m hurdles, Ashanti Harvey placed 3rd with a 16.28 time.

Seven Cougar men of the nation's 2nd ranked squad competed and chalked up four personal bests.

Two of the bests were achieved in the 400m as Andrew Ferguson won the event on a 48.68 time with Zander Von Stade placing 5th at 49.66.

Jye Gillard clocked a 200m best 21.83 in placing 13th with Von Stade leading the three Cougar entries with a 21.54 placing 9th while Xavier Madden finished 26th at 22.77. Madden was the lone Cougar in the shorter 100m, clocking an 11.19 to place 18th.

A trio of Cougars took on the longer events, Djordje Racic leading the way with a 15th place 800m 2:13.53 time and a 1500m clocking of 4:27.39 placing 8th. Trent Padilla set a new 800m tie of 2:17.81 to place 21st and was just off his pace in the 1500m in clocking a 16th place 4:47.47. Ethan Woodrome was two spots behind in 18th at 4:55.69 and placed 26th in the 800m at 4:55.69.
