Barton women add three more program impacts placing 5th at Indoor Nationals #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's track and field team wrapped up the indoor season on Saturday with a 5th placing at the 2022 NJCAA Indoor National Championships held at the Plaster Center on the campus of Pitt State University.

Finishing in the top five for the sixth straight year, Barton added forty points to their day one total accumulating 63 points over the two days of competition, just two points behind South Plains in fourth. Iowa Western ran away with the title with 160 points to distance runner-up New Mexico's 98 points and third place Cloud County's 77 points.

Barton scored in nine performances on the final day with seven personal or season best efforts. The Cougars added their second national runner-up from the meet on Saturday while also adding three additional program impacts joining Kelsie Murrell-Ross' 5th program best in winning the shot put national championship on Friday.

Nia Robinson highlighted Saturday's action, following up a 5th place season best 1.70m height in the high jump before returning to the runway bidding for the triple jump national title. Marking a personal best and program 7th best 12.60m on her first attempt, the mark stood atop the leaderboard until the fourth round in slipping to the second spot for the second time after also finishing national runner-up Friday in the long jump.

A pair of Cougars checked in at the No. 10 program all-time list, Ashantae Harvey clocking a 54.68 time for a 3rd place 400m finish and Lashanna Graham also placing third with a 1:33.78 time in the 600m.

Also setting personal bests on Saturday were Brittania Ingram (11.70m) for a 9th place in the triple jump and weight throwers Efe Latham (15.68m) to place 5th overall and Ariana Rodriguez (13.57m) finishing in the 16th spot.

The Cougars will now turn its sites on the outdoor season set to begin in a couple of weeks.
