Sanders and Smith earn KJCCC week five outdoor track honors #GoBarton

Keosha Sanders and Shyledeen Smith of the 5th ranked Barton Community College track and field team earned the program another weekly conference award this season as the duo were named the week five KJCCC Kansas MTXE Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Sanders, a sophomore from Florida, captured the 100m title last weekend at the Don Kirby Tailwind Collegiate Open in Albuquerque, New Mexico, clocking a personal best 11.62 time to ranked 2nd in the current NJCAA performance list. This is the second conference award for Sanders this season after earning the first week's award to start the indoor season and joins Latoya Stewart as a multiple award winner.

The New Mexico State University signee also helped the Lady Cougars' 4x100m to the Open's title being joined by Nijah Roberson, Deborah Giffard, and Zuri Straker to post a NJCAA's fourth best time of 46.28.

Smith also was a champion on the weekend, participating with the throwing crew in at the 7th Annual West Texas A&M Classic and Multis in Canyon, Texas. The freshman from Jamaica captured the discus throw with a personal best 43.43m (142-02) to sit 9th on the NJCAA's season best list.

The duo, along with the sweeping of the awards on the men's side as well, bring the squad's season total to thirteen KJCCC awards.

The throwing crew participated in Thursday's Bethel Invitational in Newton as the team gets much need rest and preparation for John Jacobs Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma in Norman April 20-21.
