Barnes career high Pentathlon gets No. 5 ranked Lady Cougars started in Region VI title defense #GoBarton
Fiona Barnes of the No. 5 nationally ranked Barton Community College women's track and field team began the Lady Cougars' quest for KJCCC and Region VI indoor titles on Thursday with a personal best Pentathlon to place fourth in the nine woman field.
Barnes began her 3038 point day with a personal best 8.76 55m hurdles to take fourth place before placing third in the high jump in just missing her best with a 1.55m (5-01.00) height. The Jamaican sophomore followed with first place finishes in the shot put (10.13m, 33-03.00) and long jump (5.59m, 18-04.25) but had a rough 800m (3:10.75) to slip in the standings.
Barnes' five team points get the Lady Cougars off to a solid start in seeking its fourth straight Jayhawk West Conference and third straight Region VI indoor titles.
The nation's second ranked Cougars did not have a multi-event competitor at the single day competition held at the Walter's Wellness Center at Highland Community College, but will join their female counterparts on Sunday as the meet resumes and switches locations to Manhattan, Kansas. Action begins at 9:00 a.m. at Ahern Fieldhouse on the campus of Kansas State University with complete meet information including live video and results found at www.BartonSports.com.
