The Barton Community College women's track and field team opened up the 2018 indoor season this past weekend at the University of Nebraska's Graduate Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska. Formerly known as the Holiday Inn Invitational, the Lady Cougars captured two titles and twelve top ten placings amongst nineteen teams from all levels of collegiate athletics.
Of the Lady Cougars' twelve top ten finishes, four were in the top two including two individual championships. Keosha Sanders just missed a personal best in her first meet as a sophomore, taking home the 60m dash title in 7.51 seconds with freshman Deborah Giffard placing 7th in 7.89 and just .003 out of sixth after clocking a 7.84 in the preliminary round.
Latoya Stewart also began her sophomore campaign with an individual title with a 1:36.16 finish to win the 600m with Cadeebra Calcote placing 5th in 1:38.16.
Amanda Carty held the lead through four rounds of the triple jump, taking the lead with a personal best 12.32m (40-05.00) in the second round before passing on her final two attempts in settling for the runner-up placing.
Also earning a runner-up finish was the 4x400m relay squad of Nijah Roberson, Stewart, Asjah Wallace, and Calcote as the tandem clocked a 3:53.52 behind the University of Nebraska's winning 3:48.33 time.
