Lady Cougars qualify two more for Nationals in weekends KT Woodman Classic

The Barton Community College women's track and field team qualified a couple more for the national championships as the Lady Cougars competed this past weekend at the annual two day KT Woodman Classic held at Wichita’s Cessna Stadium. Overall the squad finished sixth in the nineteen team field scoring twenty-five points.

The Barton Community College women's track and field team qualified a couple more for the national championships as the Lady Cougars competed this past weekend at the annual two day KT Woodman Classic held at Wichita's Cessna Stadium.  Overall the squad finished sixth in the nineteen team field scoring twenty-five points. 

Chenelle Ricketts and Amanda Carty were the two reaching national qualifying standards as Ricketts reached in the 100m while Carty hit the mark in the triple jump.  Finishing seventh in the 100m at 11.77, Ricketts added her name alongside Sabrina Mason and Keosha Sanders who already qualified in the event.  Mason finished runner-up on Saturday clocking a personal best 11.59.  Ricketts clocked her second personal best in the 200m lowering her already qualified time down to 23.90 in placing third. 

Carty punched her ticket to the May trip to Hutchinson on her first jump Saturday hitting an 11.58m (38-00) going on to finish ninth in the mark.

Tia Steward continued her improvement in the 400m finishing third overall with timing a new personal best of 57.83.  Asjah Wallace also rewrote her personal best record by improving her already reached 100m hurdle qualifying time to 14.50.

Also making improvement in her event was Mariah Stein, lowering her 5000m time to 19:49.98 with fifty more seconds needed to earn a trip to Hutchinson. 

The Lady Cougars' 4x100m relay team, who was bumped out of the top spot in the nation this past weekend, ran another solid race around the oval as Sanders, Wallace, Rian Robinson and Mason took second against the competition in 45.79.

The Lady Cougars' next meet will be a long road trip as Barton heads south to Barton Rouge, Louisiana, for the weekend's LSU Alumni Gold.
