Champagnie sets facility record, Lady Cougars post sixteen track and field personal bests

The Barton Community College women's track and field team set sixteen new personal bests this past weekend in Canyon, Texas, participating in the West Texas A&M University Classic & Multi event.  The Lady Cougars also recorded eight national qualifying level efforts, a facility record, and two school top-ten performances.

Freshman multi-event athlete Ayesha Champagnie continued to turn heads this past weekend setting a new WTAMU Track and Field Complex record racking up 5397 points in the Heptathlon, third best in the illustrious Barton Track and Field history.   Beginning Friday's action with a personal best 14.11 100m hurdle time, Champagnie won all four events on the first day including the high jump (1.62m, 5-03.75) and shot put (13.63m, 44-08.75) capped by a personal best 25.31 in the 200m.  In Saturday's final day Champagnie captured the javelin with a throw of 42.94m (140-10.00) while finishing second in the long jump (5.63m, 18-05.75) and third in the 800m (2:38.69).

Michelle Tomlin also added her name to the Barton record book taking second in the hammer throw with a school eighth best 50.15m (164-06.00) throw.  Tomlin also had national qualifying distances placing third in the shot put at 13.75m (45-01.50) and sixth in the discus at 39.40m (129-03).

The Lady Cougars will split the squad for their next meet competing at two different meets on Friday and Saturday.  One squad will make the trip to Wichita for the KT Woodman Classic while the others will travel to Lubbock, Texas, for the Red Raider Outdoor Open.
