Mato resets school record, Pierce and Tuey highlight Barton women track and field results at Woodman Classic

Competing in their second straight in-state meet, the Barton Community College women's track and field team competed this past weekend at the 67th annual K.T. Woodman Classic hosted by Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.  The Lady Cougars posted six personal best performances and two national qualifying performances while also having a school record reset as Barton competed against fellow NJCAA members and four-year colleges and universities.

Lydia Mato reset her own school record in the 5000m by over nine seconds finishing second with a 2015 NJCAA best time of 16:51.75.   Kaitynn Tuey had one of the most impressive improvements shaving twenty-three seconds off her personal best time crossing the line in 20:11.08 in finishing 18th.

Matching Tuey's dramatic improvement, Holly Pierce also took off twenty-three seconds with a 12:48.33 time to finish seventh in the 3000m Steeplechase.

In the sprints, Danashka Lawrence placed 45th in the 100m in 12.79 while finishing 52nd in the 200m at 26.38.  Oneisha Glover placed fifth in the 400m with a personal best 58.13 while Widline Lageroy finished tenth at 58.88.   

Julee McAtee took four seconds off her best time in the 800m finishing 35th in 2:38.62.   Yazmin Rendon, competing for the first time in the 1500m during the outdoor season, placed 71st in 6:04.73. 

In the hurdles, Tasha Frazier's personal best and national qualifying time of 14.42 was good for fifth place in the 100m Hurdles while Tamara Style's 1:04.09 was good for a fourth place finish in the 400m Hurdles.

Still working her way back into the High Jump, Bethany Bowman placed seventh clearing the bar at 1.55m (5-01.00).

Trenna Cox and Nicole Kruse were the lone throwers at the meet with Cox placing ninth in the Javelin at 28.01m (91-11.00) while Kruse did not record a mark in the Hammer Throw. 

The Lady Cougars will head to Norman, Oklahoma, next weekend beginning competition on Friday in the 46th Annual John Jacobs Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
