9th ranked Barton women's tennis falls short hosting No. 5 Seward County #GoBarton

The 9th ranked Barton Community College women's tennis team came up short 6-3 Thursday hosting 5th ranked Seward County Community College.

Now 0-2 in conference play and 8-4 overall, Barton will wrap up league action on Tuesday in traveling to Pratt Community College for a 1:00 p.m. first serve. Seward County improves to 2-0 in conference and 12-2 on the season, hosting top ranked Cowley College on Monday with title implications on the line.

The Cougars trailed 2-1 after doubles play, the difference maker coming in the No. 2 tandem as the Saints' Alejandra Ramirez Botella and Lara Torres Baron fought back from a 6-3 deficit to overtake Andjela Mrvaljevic and Andrea Pulido 9-7 to gain the edge headed to singles play.

Seward County's Emma Petton and Polya Nikolova took the No. 1 slot with an 8-2 victory over Luciana Braga and Carmen Lyons while the Cougars' No. 3 duo of Ana Vasilis and Ana Alice Tosetto also won by an 8-2 score over the Saints' Camila Corrales and Anna Verevska.

Braga got a little revenge in the top singles matchup with a hard fought straight set 6-4, 7-6(3) victory over the Saints' Petton.

Barton picked up their other lone singles win in the No. 5 slot as Vasilis prevailed 6-4, 5-7, and 10-5 over Baron.

Seward County won the remaining four in straight sets with the No. 2 outcome tightly contested as Nikolova won 7-6(5), 6-4 over the Cougars' 39th ranked Mrvaljevic.

Pulido dropped the No. 3 slot 6-0, 6-1 to the Saints' Botella, Lyons came up 6-4, 6-2 short to Corrales in the No. 4, with Tosetto losing a competitive 7-5, 6-3 match in the No. 6 slot to Otoha Mogi.
