10th ranked Barton women's tennis picks up win at McPherson College #GoBarton

The 10th ranked Barton Community College women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win Tuesday at McPherson College.

The Cougars swept all three of the doubles matches before taking four of the singles contests improving to 6-2 overall on the season.

Barton will next have a pair of 1:00 p.m. home contests versus NCAA Division II opponents in the Stueder Contractors Classic at Veterans Park beginning Friday, March 15, against Fort Hays State University followed by Newman University on Saturday.

Barton's No. 1 doubles tandem of Luciana Braga and Carmen Lyons not only won their tandem contest but each chalked up singles wins. Braga, ranked 18th in the NJCAA, disposed the Bulldogs' Camila Sanchez in straight sets 6-2, 6-4, while Lyons won her No. 4 single's first set 7-5 over Taimi Nashiku but after getting blanked 6-0, recovered to pull out a marathon 10-8 victory.

In the No. 2 tandem slot, Andjela Mrvaljevic and Andrea Pulido won 6-4 with the No. 3 duo of Ana Vasilis and Ana Alice Tosetto cruising to a 6-1 victory.

Going to a third set breaker, 39th ranked Mrvaljevic traded 6-3 sets with Zeynep Barut before prevailing over the Bulldog 10-7.

Vasilis won the No. 5 by 6-2, 7-5 scores while Pulido dropped the No. 3 spot in 6-3 straight sets with Tosetto also going down in straight 6-0 frames.
