The Barton Community College women's tennis team opened its 2024 season on Tuesday with at 6-1 loss at NCAA Division II Emporia State University.

Sophomore Luciana Braga picked up the lone Barton victory battling former Cougar Angelina Gnezdilova in the No. 1 singles match-up, each taking a 6-3 set win before Braga prevailed in the tie-break 10-6.

No. 2 singles player freshman Andjela Mrvaljevic also went to the tiebreak, dropping the first set 6-1 but bouncing back with a 7-5 victory to force the extra tangle in an eventual 11-9 loss.

The ladies will join the Cougar men on Thursday with a trip to Salina for a 2:00 p.m. first serve at Kansas Wesleyan University.
