6th ranked Barton women's tennis remain unblemished with sweep over 21st ranked Pratt #GoBarton

The 6th ranked Barton Community College women's tennis team stayed unblemished on the season Monday with a clean sweep over 21st ranked Pratt Community College.

Barton opened the afternoon at Veterans' Memorial Park with a key victory in a nationally ranked doubles matchup to continue its sweep including two defaulted matches in moving to 2-0 in conference play.

Next on the schedule is the Cougars' biggest test of the year as Barton travels to 2nd ranked Cowley College on Thursday, April 6th.

As the 20th ranked duo of Luciana Braga and Azul Barrios were rolling to the No. 2 slot 8-1 victory over Pratt's Nathalia Rodrigues and Emily Ryan, the No. 1 tandems were in a tight battle of nationally ranked teams.

Trailing the Beavers' 21st ranked Dominique Van Vuuren and Maud De Savigny, the Cougars' 10th ranked Clara Penido and Tshegofatso Tsiang fought their way back to pull out a 9-7 victory to even their conference mark at 1-1.

Penido and Van Vuuren would meet again shortly thereafter in the No. 1 singles spot with the 12th ranked Cougar registering 6-3 straight set victories over the 38th ranked Pratt player.

20th ranked Braga rolled 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles over Ryan while 36th ranked Barrios completed a straight set shutout in the No. 4 singles over Rodriques with Carmen Lyons sweeping Olivet Shove by 6-0, 6-1 scores.

In addition to the No. 1 singles tangle, in the No. 3 slot was also a ranked player battle as 30th ranked Tsiang prevailed over 46th ranked De Savigny by competitive 6-4 and 6-3 scores.

Lyons and Ana Vasilis received a default win in the No. 3 doubles with Vasilis receiving a No. 6 default victory.
