21st ranked Barton women’s tennis snaps slide with 5-4 win over Iowa Central.
The No. 21 ranked Barton Community College women's tennis team snapped a seven match slide Sunday as the Lady Cougars came out on top 5-4 in hosting Iowa Central Community College. Moving the matches inside Club 1 Fitness Center due to weather conditions, Barton won two of the doubles matches before three singles match victories wrapped up the win. Now 3-9 on the season, Barton next heads to postseason with a trip to Arkansas City for the Region VI Championships scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 20-21.
Jenna Groene and Thamires Lima picked up two of the wins on the day for the Lady Cougars with Groene winning her No. 5 singles match over the Triton's Aimee Kell while Lima nearly blanked Rebecca Dunn in the No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 score.
Groene teamed up with Ksenija Dmitrovic as the No. 2 duo squad earning an 8-2 win over Paulina Jankun and Lilly Timmerman. Lima and No. 3 doubles partner Sarah Hammer were equally impressive in an 8-1 defeat of Dunn and Kell.
The nation's No. 9 ranked and New Mexico State University signee Neus Torregrosa had an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win over Dayana Ortega in the No. 1 singles match. The short court time victory somewhat avenged a disappointing No. 1 doubles matches as she and Shai Cartmill lost 8-4 to Ortega and Katheryne Campos. Campos would give the Tritons a 2-1 edge in the top matches, winning by the same 6-1, 6-1 score over Hammer in the No. 2 singles matches.
In other matches, No. 3 singles Dmitrovic lost a hard fought 2-6, 7-5, 10-1 match to Jankun while Cartmill lost to Timmerman in the No. 4 match 6-3, 6-4.
