Lady Cougar Tennis drops dual with Fort Hays State University

The Barton Community College women's tennis team got a little extra time on the court this past Thursday, taking on the Fort Hays State University Tigers in a dual at the Ellinwood Grade School tennis courts.  Winning both the top doubles and singles match, the Lady Cougars dropped the remaining two tandem matches going on to lose the match 6-3.  Barton will next head to Newton on Tuesday for a 5:00 p.m. dual against Bethel College in its final tune-up for the post season.

Neus Torregrosa and Idah Longwe were responsible for all three of the Lady Cougars wins on the day, beginning with an 8-4 No. 1 doubles victory over the Tigers' Lauren Lindell and Natalie Lubbers.

Fort Hays took remaining two doubles matches with Barton's Julia Ramalho and Juliana Seabra were dominated 8-2 in the No. 2 pairings to Laura Jimenez-Lendinez and Macy Moyers while the No. 3 duo of Jenna Groene and Shai Cartmill fell short 8-4 against Nicole Lubbers and Jessica Johnson.

Torregrosa won her third straight No. 1 singles match improving to 11-6 on the season as the nation's No. 30 ranked player won 6-0-, 6-4, over Jimenez-Lendinez.  Longwe, who had her ten match streak snapped the last time on the court, got back into the win column with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Moyers to improve to 15-3 on the sophomore's season.

Two matches came down to a point here or there in determining the winner.  Seabra battled in the No. 3 losing tough 6-4, 7-6(3) straight sets to Lindell while Cartmill captured the first set 6-4 in the No. 6 matchup before losing to Taylor Noel 6-2 in the second and 10-8 in the third.
