The Barton Community College women's tennis team managed just two victories in Saturday's dual with NCAA Division II Colorado Christian University, falling 7-2 at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts. The No. 17 ranked Lady Cougars drop to 3-5 on the season, returning to Vets Park on Monday for a pair of matches, beginning with the conference opening match versus No. 6 ranked Seward County Community College at 9:00 a.m. followed with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match against Iowa Central Community College.
Barton's lone doubles victory came in the No. 3 match as Jenna Groene and Shai Cartmill won 8-5 over Ryanne Ritchey and Taylor Westrom. CCU handled Barton's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches limiting the Lady Cougars to just three wins. No. 1s Neus Torregrosa and Idah Longwe earned the three wins but fell 8-3 to Jenny Perkins and Carrie Alberson. The No. 2s of Julia Ramalho and Juliana Seabra were shutout in their match, losing 8-0 to Paige Crews and Maddie Anderson.
Longwe pulled out the lone singles victory coming at the No. 4 defeating Anderson 7-5, 6-2. No. 49 ranked Ramalho put up a good fight in the No. 2 singles but Perkins came out on top of a 7-5, 6-4 score. Seabra dropped the No. 3 match to Alberson 6-2, 6-2, with CCU gaining the win in the No. 1 due to the withdrawal of Torregrosa due to sickness. Groene nearly had the first set against Ritchey in the No. 5 coming up short 6-4 before Ritchey put the match away with a 6-1 second set. A 6-1 score put Cartmill in a hole at the No. 6 singles match versus Westrom before going down fighting 6-3.
