No. 17 ranked Lady Cougar Tennis handles Tabor College 8-1

The Barton Community College women's tennis team swept Thursday's doubles action laying the foundation for an 8-1 victory over Tabor College held at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts.   Taking care of the opening tandem matches by a 24-9 score, the No. 17 ranked Lady Cougars went on to take five of the six singles matches in rebounding from a loss on Tuesday versus Southwestern College.  Now 3-4 on the season, Barton will have over a week off from competition before returning to Vet's Park on Saturday, March 25, for an 8:00 a.m. dual with Colorado Christian University.

Barton's No. 1 doubles of Neus Torregrosa and Idah Longwe began the day with an 8-4 win over Tabor's Jessica Emoto and Naima Mexsen.  Ranked No. 30 in the NJCAA, Torregrosa took on the NAIA No. 9 ranked Emoto in singles play in a match featuring some great action from the baseline with Torregrosa coming out on top 6-4 and 6-1.  Longwe took care of her No. 4 singles match over Tessa Isaac in shutout fashion 6-0, 6-0.

The No. 2 doubles of Julia Romalho and Juliana Seabra also won their match 8-4, coming out on top over Celeste Worthy and Isaac.  Romalho paired with Mexsen in the No. 2 singles match in a back and forth contest, splitting the sets by identical 7-5 scores before the No. 49 ranked Romalho won the tie break in a hard fought 10-8 victory.  Seabra also went to tie break in her No. 3 singles, winning the first set 7-6, 8-3 in the break, before putting away Worthy 6-0 in the second.

Jenna Groene and Shai Cartmill had no problem in their No. 3 doubles match with Lindsey Stroud and Mandi Hiett winning 8-1, but the foursome would split their singles matches later in the day.   Cartmill handled Stroud in the No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-1, but Hiett would hold off Groene in one of the later matches of the day 6-4, 6-2, to win the No. 5 singles.
