The Barton County Community College women's tennis pulled out its second win of the week defeating Bethel College 5-4 Thursday afternoon at the Ellinwood Grade School tennis courts. Taking a 2-1 match lead after the doubles rounds, the Lady Cougars grabbed the first two singles matches tacking on another late win to capture the victory.
Barton's No. 1 doubles of Daniela Sanz and Idah Longwe rolled to an 8-4 win over Bethel's Rachel Herzog and Kim Buzbee. Sanz would easily dispel Herzog in singles play 6-3, 6-1 while Longwe would surrender only two games in winning her No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1 over the Thrashers' Breanne Rogers.
The tandem of Juliana Seabra and Karli Beck earned a hard fought win at the No. 2 outlasting Serena Wong and Rogers 8-6. Beck would be later matched against Wong in the No. 4 slot with Wong winning 6-3, 6-3 while Seabra had the match of the day locked in with Buzbee in the No. 2 singles going a marathon super tie-breaker as Buzbee pulled out the 6-3, 4-6, 15-13 victory.
The latter part of the lineup didn't have the best of days on the hard court dropping two of the three matches. Baylee Reade earned the lone win at the No. 5 singles with an 8-6 victory over Kelsey Jump but her doubles match didn't fare as well being joined with McKenna Hammeke in dropping an 8-0 No. 3 defeat to Julie Baker and Steph Brown. Hammeke would then later take a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Baker in the No. 6 singles.
The Lady Cougars will have a few days rest before preparation of returning to conference play next Monday at 12:00 p.m. in Arkansas City against No. 9 ranked Cowley College.
