Barton Swimming strong in virtual meet against Southwestern Oregon #GoBarton

The Barton Community College swimming teams picked up 27 of the 51 event victories Saturday morning competing in a Virtual Meet against Southwestern Oregon Community College.

The Cougars next event is a virtual meet as Barton will conduct their races at the Barton pool on Saturday to be scored in the Iowa Central Midwest Cup. The Cougars will then begin their month-long preparation for the NJCAA Championships held March 1-4 in Buffalo, NY.

Women's Recap
Nine Cougars claimed individual titles with four claiming two events apiece over the 27 scored events.

Maria Orlandi Genizelli claimed the first of her two winning the opening 1000-yard freestyle in 12:10.59, while she also added a victory as the lone participant in the 200-yard breaststroke clocking a 3:02.62.

Elsewhere freshman Rachel Sims collected her pair of victories in a variety of ways besting teammate Koe Schultz in the 200 IM clocking a 2:41.90 with her other gold earned on the 1-meter diving board scoring a 301.30 mark.

Linda Franco swept a pair of freestyle events besting the five-entry field in the 100-yard (57.17) and fortifying revenge in the 50-yard (26.18) over teammate Mikwena Lierman after finishing runner-up to Lierman's best (2:05.65) in the 200-yard.

Competing as the lone participant in two of the tougher events sophomore Dominique Cos rounded out Barton's multi-event winners with her pair secured in the 200-yard butterfly (2:35.82) and 400-yard IM (5:27.68).

Rounding out the Barton victories were Silvana Jacquez Viveros 500-yard freestyle (5:47.12), Caroline Tipton 100-yard freestyle (1:01.68), Catarina Contes Tribst 100-yard backstroke (1:10.65), and Olivia Kerr 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.37).

Men's Recap
Dominik Strba and Jethro Irvine clinched a trio of victories a piece helping Barton accumulate 14 of the 24-events.

Strba put on a clinic dominating the mid-distance races kicking off with back-to-back 200-yard wins in the Butterfly (2:02.81) and Freestyle (1:58.99) before clinching his final gold in the 400-yard IM (4:34.29).

Irvine ran through the ever so exciting sprinting events earning two of his three in dramatic fashion at the wall besting the fields of 17 and 15 in the 100-yard IM (54.06) and 50-yard butterfly (23.53) respectfully. The sophomore concluded his three golden day edging two other teammates in the 100-yard butterfly (55.29).

Enzo Vogt da Silva and Brenden Swindle added the lone other multi-victories over the weekend for the Cougar men. Vogt da Silva clinched his pair in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:05.97) and then in the 100-yard backstroke (56.59) while Swindle scored his two in the 200-yard IM (2:09.54) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.16).

Four other Cougars turned in victories Jonathan Beers 200-yard freestyle (1:53.88), William McCabe 500-yard freestyle (4:59.48), Walker Balicki 100-yard freestyle (57.28), and Javan Titus 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.44).

Due to a late schedule change forcing the virtual meet, the Cougars still honored their sophomores midway through Saturday's events.
