Barton Women sit fourth after Day 2 at NJCAA Swimming & Diving Championships #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's swimming team picked up a trio of top-five finishes in day two of action at the NJCAA Swimming & Diving National Championships held in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Despite slipping two spots back to fourth in the overall team standings through 12 events, the Cougars managed more outstanding performances producing one new school record, 14 new program top-10 times and 12 new personal best times over the seven-event battle. 

Sitting with 275 points after two days of competition, Barton will look to leap back up the team standings in Friday's six event competition trailing third place Iowa Central Community College by 11 points and second place Southwestern Oregon Community College by 20 points. Friday's action is slated to start at 8:30 a.m. (CT) from the Anne Wilder Aquatic Center.

The Cougars' top two performances of the day came in the team relay events with the highest finish in the evenings opening finals event as Linda Franco, Summer Gomez, Olivia Kerr, and Mikwena Lierman swam to a national runner-up clocking a program second best mark of 1:38.18. 

Cindy BroadrickDominique Cos, Franco and Kerr highlighted the individual results for Barton all placing inside the top-eight.

Broadrick managed the highest individual finish in her first personal event of the week outdoing her morning's fifth fastest prelim mark in the evening's 100-butterfly clocking the fourth quickest mark of 58.53 falling just .33 seconds off the program's top time. Franco slipped to eighth in the finals after posting the seventh fastest prelim time and third fastest mark in the program with a 59.79.

Competing in her second individual event for the week, Cos assembled her second seventh place finish stopping the clock at 4:56.13 in the 400 IM moving a spot up from her eighth-place prelim time.

In the 200 IM prelims, the Cougars saw a new program record shatter as Kerr leaped to the top of the records with a prelim eighth fastest time of 1:58.89. The freshman settled for eighth in the evening's finals event despite falling two seconds off her prior record set earlier in the morning.

Barton concluded the evening with its' second-best finish of the day as Broadrick, Cos, Franco, and Kerr generated the fourth fastest time in the program record books with a 4:06.86 earning bronze in the seven-team field.
