Barton Men capture team title at Sunflower Showdown; Cougar women finish runner-up #GoBarton

The Barton Community College swimming programs posted another impressive day in the pool as the Cougars competed in Friday's Sunflower Showdown held at Topeka's Capitol Federal Natatorium.

Barton's next meet comes a week from Saturday in Fort Dodge, IA with the Cougars competing in the Iowa Central Community College dual with a 10:00 a.m. start time.

The Barton men dominated the one-day event claiming all 10 events while posting the top-3 finishers in six of the 10 events claiming the team crown. The Cougars swam to nine personal bests including six new program top-10 times with two falling inside the program's top-5 list.

Enzo Vogt da Silva filled up his hardware box with four golds, capturing the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, to go along with the 200 freestyle relay title shared with tandem mates of Tyler Woodworth, Netani Ross, and Jethro Irvine.

Ross, who captured the 100-yard backstroke, Johan Cue Carrillo who won the 100-yard breaststroke, and Josias Solarte who took the 100-yard butterfly added another gold to their names helping Barton to the fourth fastest time in program history in the 200-yard medley relay title teaming with Tyler Woodworth.  

Other first place finishers for the Cougars were Justus Hampton (100-yard freestyle), and Joshua-Ryan Lujan (200-yard IM).

On the women's side, Barton settled for a runner-up finish producing four top-5 finishes over the 10-event showdown.

Linda Franco and Dominique Cos tied for the Cougars' highest finish of the day with fourth place outings in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke.

Franco edged out teammate Mikwena Lierman by .24 seconds notching the fifth fastest time in the history books (25.25).

Cos led a trio into the Barton, record books in the 100-yard breaststroke timing the fourth fastest time (1:09.26) with Olivia Kerr earning the fifth best time (1:11.56) and Leeya Van Druff rounding out the seventh quickest (1:17.05).

Kerr entered into the Cougar top-10 record books for a second time earning a ninth place finish in the 200-yard IM clocking the second best mark (2:18.72) in program history.
