Barton's Tanaka earns season's final KJCCC Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week award #GoBarton

Mio Tanaka of the 8th ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team has been named the season's final KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week recipient.

The freshman net tender picked up a win and a big road result last week helping the then-7th ranked Cougars to a 1-1 record in their two contests.

Surrendering a ping-ponged header goal off a corner kick last Wednesday in Arkansas City, Tanaka kept the sheet clean on five more Tiger attempts for the remaining 85 minutes at 17th ranked Cowley in helping Barton pull out the big draw result to all but clinch the Cougars' share of the conference title.

The following Saturday, Tanaka faced just two shots between the pipes as Garden City's quick counter mid-way through the second half provided the lone goal against in spoiling the club's bid for a 7th shutout.

Most recently Tanaka and the Cougars completed the regular season with an 8-1 win over Seward County improving to 12-1-3 in league and on the season.

The KJCCC Champions enter the Plains District Tournament as the top seed, hosting Coffeyville Community College on Friday in a 3:00 p.m. first round kick-off. NOTE: Originally scheduled for Sunday, the game has been moved up two days due to impending weather.

Tanaka's conference weekly award is Barton's third of the season joining Aya Saiki's week eight honor and Nina Norshie's sixth week distinction
