Norshie and Grant earn Week 2 Barton Sports Weekly Athletics Award Honors #GoBarton

Barton Sports Student Athletes of the Week for week of 8/30/22

Barton women's soccer player Nina Norshie and men's soccer player Tajay Grant have been named the week 2 "Barton Sports Weekly Athletics Award Honors" sponsored by Great Bend's Indentifications.

Nina Norshie was named the week two KJCCC Division I Player of the Week while also obtaining the opening NJCAA Division I Player of the Week honor. Norshie had a historic week for the Cougars tallying up 23 points behind 10 goals and three assists. Norshie opened her week netting her second straight hat trick in Barton's 7-1 win at McPherson. The freshman carried the momentum into Saturday's 18-0 rout over Trinity Valley becoming the second ever Cougar to record seven goals in one game. Adding two assists to the day's total of 16 points, Norshie became the program's total points in a game holder. Having her three game hat-trick snapped in the week's finale, the freshman still contributed with an assist to tie the contest in Barton's near upset at No. 2 ranked Tyler.

Norshie sustained her hot stretch recording a pair of hat tricks and game winning goals helping the No. 16 ranked Cougars to a pair of victories over Garden City Community College (6-0) and Western Wyoming Community College (4-2). Norshie and Barton will return to conference play Wednesday evening making a road trip to Dodge City Community College for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.

Tajay Grant was efficient on the offensive side helping the Cougars to a 1-1 weekend. Grant began his weekend netting a first half hat trick and delivered the ultimate game winner helping Barton to a 4-2 victory over Indian Hills. Managing just one-shot attempt in Saturday's OT loss to top ranked Iowa Western, Grant finished the week with an impressive 75% effective shot on target rate going 3-of-4 in shots on frame.

Leaping into the top-20 polls for the first time of the season, Grant remained the offensive catalyst delivering a pair of game winnings goals, guiding No. 13 Barton to a 3-0 week with wins over Garden City Community College (4-1), Trinidad State (3-0), and at Otero Community College (2-0). Grant and the Cougars return to KJCCC play Wednesday afternoon in a 3:00 p.m. kick at Dodge City Community College.
