Upset bid falls short in overtime, Barton women's soccer falls 2-1 at No. 2 Tyler #GoBarton

Barton women's soccer result at Tyler featuring Rin Sato

One minute into overtime and the Barton Community College women's soccer team's upset bid bid fell short 2-1 at No. 2 ranked Tyler Junior College.

The game winner came fifty-one seconds into the extra time as the Cougars thought an offside was being called but instead it left a 1v1 situation resulting in the game winner.

Barton falls to 3-1 on the season as Tyler remains unblemished at 3-0. The Cougars will next turn its attention to conference play beginning at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday hosting Garden City Community College before capping a two-game homestand on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. non-conference matchup versus Western Wyoming Community College.

The Apaches struck first just 3:34 into the contest on a nifty through ball as Nia Baker's attempt to reject the shot was only partially blocked before rattling the net.

It took just twenty-five seconds to produce the equalizer, Hinano Nakagawa creating the chance after the reset with a though ball to Nina Norshie. Norshie's blast to the far post was turned away by the Apache keeper but the heads up play from Aya Saiki sprinting in and one-touching a laser from just inside the eighteen knotted it up on her second goal of the season.

Gridlocked at the half, the Apaches controlled a good portion of the first twenty-four minutes of the second half play before the Cougars gained momentum in the latter half. Barton's best and final scoring opportunity came with approximately two minutes left on Natalia Baltodano's twenty-five yard free kick to the upper-90 but deflected by the Apache keeper off the crossbar.

The winning play was controversial in the eyes of the Cougars leaving a bad taste for an otherwise great performance. A long pass into the mid part of the field appeared to setup an offsides situation but the no call put the Apaches in prime scoring position with a low strike beating Baker for the winner.
