Testoni and Gerdau earn Week 1 Barton Sports Weekly Athletic Award Honors
Barton Volleyball player Mylena Testoni and Women's Soccer player Annika Gerdau have earned the "Barton Sport's Weekly Athletic Award Honors".
Mylena Testoni of the vollebyall team was named the KJCCC Player of the Week on August 24th. Testoni the Region VI reigning Most Valuable Player picked up where she left off from last year in leading 12th ranked Barton to a trio of sweeps to open up the 21' campaign. The first team All-American posted three double-double performances, attacking at a .557 clip, and had just four errors in seventy swings.
Testoni and the Cougars next match will come Wednesday in Concordia for a 6:30 p.m. conference opener against the T-Birds of Cloud County Community College. Barton will then head to Norfolk, Nebraska for the weekend before heading out to Arizona for matches throughout the week to close out the month of August and bring in September.
Annika Gerdau recorded a stellar opening week collecting five goals while distributing a pair of assists along the way in Barton's 2-0 week, sweeping up the week 1 KJCCC Player of the Week honors. Gerdau started her week netting a hat trick in Thursday's 8-1 road victory over Southeast Community College. The freshman carried the momentum into Saturday's home opener rattling the nets twice more while assisting in a pair of tallies in the Cougars 5-0 victory over McPherson College.
Barton women's soccer will return to the pitch for a friendly match Tuesday evening at Friends University with kcikoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Gerdau and the Cougars will then open up conference play September 1st in an early season Jayhawk West titlt with the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson Community College at 1:00 p.m. from the Cougar Soccer Complex.
