Cougars down Dodge City 3-1, Coach Camara becomes program career wins leader #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's soccer team fought off a feisty Dodge City Community College squad Wednesday afternoon earning a 3-1 victory at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

Barton women's soccer Head Coach Ousmane "OC" Camara visits with player Annika Gerdau With the victory, Head Coach Ousmane "OC" Camara became the all-time career wins leader in the program's history at 60-29-6 in his six seasons, surpassing now Emporia State University Head Coach Bryan Sailer's four-year Barton mark of 59-23-2. 

Winners of three straight, the Cougars improve to 3-1-0 in Jayhawk play and 6-1-0 overall while the Conquistadors continue to search for their first victory of the season dropping to 0-3-0 in conference and 0-3-0 overall. Barton will hit the road for a 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon tilt with Johnson County Community College.

Freshman Nicole Thorp netted a pair of goals on the day, one giving Barton the early lead with the final goal providing some extra insurance for the Cougars. Annika Gerdau and Seulgi Lee setup Thorp's opening net rattler following Gerdau's steal at midfield presenting Lee's thru ball where Thorp settled the ball launching far post laser putting Barton up just under seven minutes into the contest.

Barton's lead expanded in the 37th minute as freshman Marina Angiolini collected her first collegiate net shaker cleaning up Kimberly Padilla's crossbar shot attempt inside the 10'.

Dodge City cut the Cougars' lead in half just 5:50 later as the Conquistadors Citlali Sanchez took advantage of a loose ball bouncing off the crossbar on Sophia Martinez free kick attempt pulling the Conquistadors to within 2-1.

Thorp's second lamp lighter came in the 53rd minute as the freshman's defense created havoc on the Conquistadors back line forcing a turnover directing a 25-yard perfect strike just inside the upper-90 far post over the hands of Dodge City's keeper Vickie Foster.
