Second half goal carries Barton to 2-1 victory over Hutchinson in conference opener #GoBarton

Rattling the nets with 18:50 remaining, the Barton Community College women's soccer team opened conference play with a 2-1 victory over Hutchinson Community College Wednesday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

The Cougars' improve to 3-0-0 on the year while the Blue Dragons fall to 1-1-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in conference play. Barton's next action comes Saturday in hosting Coffeyville Community College for a 1:00 p.m. kick from the Cougar Soccer Complex.

Annika Gerdau gave the Cougars the initial lead with 16:31 to play in the opening stanza sailing Seulgi Lee's blocked shot deflection just inside the upper-90 far post from 30-yards out for her team leading sixth goal.

Nine minutes later Hutchinson got the equalizer on Hadiie Lowe's empty net opportunity just inside the 18' as Lowe out muscled the Barton defense to a loose ball.

Following a tight battle with both teams getting quality scoring opportunities through the opening 25-minutes of the second half, returning second team All-American Lee provided the difference maker with 18:50 to play blasting a 30-yard free kick just inside the near post for her first net rattler of the year.

Net finder Nia Baker improved her record between the pipes to 3-0-0 on the campaign stopping one of the two shots faced.

Offensively the Cougars' held a 16-5 advantage over the Blue Dragons in shots while holding a plus seven mark on frame.
