Barton women’s soccer earns six post-season honors.
Six members of the Barton Community College women's soccer team earned post-season honors with three landing on the All-Region VI second team.
The selections helped Barton to six shutouts during the year in placing third in the Jayhawk West at 8-4 with an overall season mark of 9-8-0.
Three sophomores landed on the first team of the KJCCC West Division team and on the second team of the region in leading the Cougar awards ranging front the front line of attack through the midfield and anchoring the defensive line.
Forward Domenica Pena's first team selection produced sixteen points consisting of six net shakers and four assists, with six points coming in a two goal, two assist performance leading Barton's victory over Hesston.
Larissa Modesto controlled the Cougars' midfield in addition to providing explosive speed to stretch the defense. Scoring three goals on the year including a game winner at Pratt, Modesto also dished out three assists, one setting up Pena's game winner versus Dodge City.
Defenseman Alexsandra Fernandes tallied six points on two goals and assist but was the backbone to the region's fourth best defense in surrendering just fourteen goals in league play.
Modesto and second team all-conference fellow midfielder Mercy Azanapo helped the Cougars to a fifth best offensive attack in the region.
Joining Fernandes on the backline in earning honors were second team all-conference selection freshman defensemen Kurumi Arakawa, who tied Pena for team high scoring honors, and honorable mention freshman Enola Prassel.
