Cougars’ second half attack comes up empty in Hutchinson.
In a near carbon copy script from its' earlier season matchup, the Barton Community College women's soccer team fell on the short end of the stick Wednesday night in another 2-0 defeat to Hutchinson Community College.
The road loss drops the Cougars to 5-6-0 on the season while remaining in third place of the Jayhawk West at 5-3-0 with Hutchinson remaining in the hunt for the title at 6-1 improving to 8-2 overall.
Weather permitting, Barton will attempt to get back in the win column Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex.in a 2:00 p.m. kick-off against Hesston College, with a Sunday possible reschedule date in consideration.
Scoreless through the first thirty-five minutes of the contest, the Blue Dragons broke through as Esther Karhayu snuck behind the back line to deliver Samantha Vaughn's pass in beating Cougar net keeper Itzel Diaz far post giving Hutchinson the essential game winner.
Two minutes later Hutchinson goalkeeper Chiara Soergel keyed the insurance, launching a punt out of goal with a beautiful touch header by Macy Smith up field sending the ball past Barton's drawn up back line. Chavelle Henry completed the counter play in splitting the Cougar defense to rattle the net far post for the Hutchinson 2-0 advantage.
Despite falling on the wrong side of the score, the Cougars out fired the Blue Dragons for the second time of the season. Registering a 13-12 edge on shots launched, Barton put together an 8-1 second half advantage but couldn't crack the frame as Soergel protected the net with eight shot-n-frame rejections. Diaz, who was under fire against eleven first half Hutchinson shots, saved seven of the nine attacks on frame in just surrendering the pair of 1v1 goal strikes.
