Lady Cougars dominate Pratt for Jayhawk West shutout

The Barton Community College women's soccer team dominated all phases of Sunday's conference match at the Cougar Soccer Complex earning a 7-0 shutout over Pratt Community College.  The Lady Cougars scored three in the first forty-five minutes before tacking on four second half goals in Barton's highest output of the season while denying any Pratt shots to get launched in the contest.  The victory improves the Lady Cougars to 2-1 in Jayhawk Conference play and 3-2-1 on the season while keeping Pratt winless at 0-3 in the West and 0-7 overall.  Barton's next action will come Friday traveling to Hesston College with the women beginning at 5:00 p.m. followed by the men's contest slated for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

It took less than ten minutes for the Lady Cougars to crack the goose egg as Megan Martinez scored on a tight right angle off Brooke Russell's defected free kick with 36:06 on the clock.  Two minutes later Russell had another shot saved by Pratt goalkeeper Kaylie Armstrong but Rachel Craft cleaned up the rebound for a two goal Lady Cougar lead.    Barton concluded first half scoring with 9:34 to play as Abigail Elliott perfectly placed a through ball where Hannah Knaak beat Armstrong on the far post.

Barton began the second forty-five minutes much like the first scoring just 7:25 into the second frame. Beating the defense to the far corner, Rachel Craft got the edge sending a cross into the box finding the foot of Maddison Schofield who finished top shelf.  Adding her second goal of the contest midway thru the half, Schofield took Knaak's pass turning it into the Australian's third goal of the year depositing upper far post increasing the lead to five.

The Lady Cougars put the final touches on the victory with two goals in the last twelve minutes, the first generated from the defensive effort of Abigail Elliott stealing the ball then beating the keeper far post for her first collegiate goal.   Also collecting her first collegiate goal, Ana Luiza Abras capped the scoring going lower third on the far post for the seven goal difference with seventeen ticks on the clock.

Launching forty-two shots in the contest, the Lady Cougars sent twenty-eight of those on frame while defensively allowing Pratt no shots throughout the ninety minutes of play.
