No.16 Lady Cougar soccer season ends in Region VI semifinals

A stroke of good fortune is often the difference in playoff time as was the case in the second game of the Region VI semifinals Thursday at Topeka's Hummer Sports Complex.  Unfortunately for the No. 16 ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team, the Lady Cougars were on the flip side of the good fortune dropping a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to Johnson County Community College Thursday.  The Cavaliers got the game winner 4:33 into the second half from Kelsey Wakefield's left foot shot from the left wing deflecting off the hands of Barton goalkeeper Stephanie Lomas.  Lomas, who was big all game for the Lady Cougars, saved eight shots as the Cavaliers controlled most of the contest.   The loss ends Barton's season at 13-4-1 while Johnson County, 17-2-1 on the season, advances to Friday's championship contest against No. 5 Butler Community College.
