The Barton Community College women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 win Saturday over Allen County Community College in first round play of the Region VI playoffs.  The No. 17 ranked Lady Cougars, 13-3-1 on the season, will take on Johnson, 16-2-1, in the region semifinals Thursday at Topeka's Hummer Sports Complex.  The Cougars and Cavaliers fought to an epic 2-2 tie back on October 12 in Overland Park, Kansas, with the winner advancing to play for the Region VI Championship at 10:00 a.m. Friday.

Mariana Poveda's perfect pass setup Catlin Simon to get Barton on the board right before halftime.  As the defense collapsed on standout Bianca Barron, Poveda found the seam to set up Simon's splitting the defense to launch past the Red Devil's keeper with 2:04 to play.  The Lady Cougars then needed a leaping save just one moment later from 3-time KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week Stephanie Lomas as her block off an Allen free kick protected the lead.

It took the Cougars less than a minute into the second half to score as Molly Hausmann blasted in a rebound off a Barron shot off the cross bar giving Barton the two-goal cushion.

The victory was the second straight shutout for the Lady Cougars and increased their unbeaten streak to six.
