Tuning up for the postseason, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team scored five first half goals to cruise to the 5-0 win Wednesday evening at Garden City Community College.  Barton ends the regular season at 11-1-1 and 12-3-1 overall while dropping Garden City to 1-10-0 and 1-12-0.   The victory also assured the Lady Cougars with at least a second place tie in the final Jayhawk Conference standings with Johnson County Community College and most likely the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Region VI playoffs.  Barton will now play the waiting game until next week to see who the Lady Cougars will host in first round region play on either November 2nd or 3rd.

It took Barton only eight minutes to get on the scoreboard as midfielder Mariana Poveda's deep shot scored her fifth goal of the season and the fourth consecutive game finding the back of the net.   Freshman Catlin Simon added her fourth goal of the season eight minutes later scoring off a pass from the reigning KJCCC and NJCAA player of the week Bianca Barron.

Scoring her 20th goal of the season, Barron put away Poveda's assist giving the Lady Cougars a three goal lead with 19:27 yet to play in the half.  Barron, who would put up four points in the first half, added her second assist of the half with 12:30 remaining as freshman Ronnie Johnson hammered home her third goal of the season.

Like Barron, Poveda would also have two assists in the first half as her pass from the midfield set up Molly Hausmann's sixth goal of the season with eight minutes to play as the Lady Cougars would go on for the 5-0 win.

Stephanie Lomas, a three-time KJCCC and two-time NJCAA goalkeeper of the week award winner, combined with freshman Kacee Walsh to secure the Lady Cougars' seventh shutout of the season.

The sophomore duo of Barron and Poveda continue to make their marks in the Barton record book.  Despite playing eight fewer games than Barron, Poveda trails Barron by one assist for fifth place all-time.  Barron stands at sixteen while Poveda is at fifteen, both within reach of fourth place Shala Giardini's nineteen set during the 2009-2010 seasons.

Receiving the weekly conference honor for the second time this season, Barron entered the top ten in points scored in a season with 47 after a third best 71 last season to draw within five points (118) of third best all-time.  In goals scored, Barron's twenty is eight best in Barton history after a second best thirty-one scored her fourth season.  Overall Barron's fifty-one goals stands second to Giardini's top chart mark of seventy-four goals.
