No. 18 Lady Cougars shutout Mavericks in non-conference play

Stepping out of conference play, the No. 18 ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team recorded a 3-0 shutout of Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Wednesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex.  The Lady Cougars improve to 10-3-1 on the season and drop NOC to 8-5-1.  With two regular season games remaining, Barton controls its destiny for at least a second place finish in the conference.   The Lady Cougars, 9-1-1 in conference play, will play its last home game this Saturday against Pratt Community College before concluding the regular season October 23 at Garden City Community College.  Kickoff for Saturday's game at the Cougar Soccer Complex is 2:00 pm. followed by the No. 20 ranked Cougar men's team at 4:00 p.m.

Midway through the first half defender Millie York helped put the Lady Cougars on the board with an perfectly executed cross finding leading scorer Bianca Barron deep inside the 18'.  Splitting two defenders, Barron blasted her 17th goal of the season past NOC goalkeeper Madeleine Pieper and another defender.  Barron's goal also drew her one goal closer to second place on the Barton all-time list behind Yesenia Garcia's achievements in the 2007-2008 seasons.

Holding a 1-0 lead into the intermission, the Cougars added an insurance goal eighteen minutes into the second half on midfielder Mariana Poveda third goal of the season on a 36' bomb over the head of the leaping Pieper.

Barton put the game away with 2:26 remaining as midfielder Emily Troll's forward pass from midfield perfectly split two defenders to find freshman Aliya Marshall just outside the 18'.  Maintaining stride Marshall fought off a defender and laced a shot to the far post scoring her fifth goal of the season.
