The Barton Community College women's soccer team picked up its biggest win of the year Wednesday in Hutchinson as the No. 16 ranked Lady Cougars defeated nationally receiving votes Hutchinson Community College 1-0.   The win marks the first time since 2007 Barton has defeated Hutchinson and only the third time in the series history. With the victory the Lady Cougars stay unbeaten in conference play at 7-0 and improve to 7-2 overall.  Losing its second straight game, Hutchinson drops to 5-2 in conference and 6-2 overall.

Barton got the game-winning goal with 9:14 to play in the first half from beautiful execution from the Lady Cougar front-line. After settling a pass from Bianca Barron amongst two defenders, Aliya Marshall sent a left foot cross to the left top of the eighteen.  Running down the left side of the field, Molly Hausmann one-timed the pass in mid-air, banging the shot off the left post.  With the ball riqcueting back towards her, Hausman quickly touched twice around a Hutch defender then blasted the rebound past Blue Dragon goalkeeper Bailey Shupe for the game winner.

The shutout victory is the third straight for Barton and the first coming against Hutchinson in eleven meetings.  The reigning NJCAA and KJCCC Verizon Wireless Goalkeeper of the Week Stephanie Lomas recorded seven saves and the rapidly improving Lady Cougars' defense enjoyed their fifth shutout of the season.

"They never broke us down," Barton coach Aaron Avila told Brad Hallier of The Hutchinson News. "We knew it would be that kind of game, and we kept them at a distance. They had a few shots from a distance, and maybe a few more corner kicks than I'd like, but we played well."

Hutchinson, reeling amidst a modest two-game losing streak, was shutout at home for the first time since 2006 and suffered only its second home loss since 2007.

Barton's next home game will be this Sunday as the Lady Cougars welcome Neosho County Community College to the Cougar Soccer Complex for a 2:00 p.m. conference game.
