Barton Women’s Soccer win sixth straight with fourth shutout of season

Since dropping the first two games of the season, the Barton Community College women's soccer team won its sixth straight game Saturday by recording a 3-0 shutout of Allen Community College.   The No. 15 NSCAA ranked Lady Cougars recorded its fourth shutout to improve to 6-0 in conference play and 6-2 on the season while giving Allen its first conference loss dropping the Red Devils to 3-1 and 5-3 overall.   Looming for the Lady Cougars is a key conference matchup Wednesday at No. 12 nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College.

Launching nine shots against the wind in the first half of play, the Cougars finally broke through with 16:16 to play in the first half.  Launching an arcing ball off the foot of Olimpia Bonilla from a right side corner kick, Bianca Barron was able to fight through the crowd in front of the net to beat the Red Devils goalkeeper Keelie Arbuckle.

Holding the slim one-goal margin through intermission, the Lady Cougars again converted a corner kick midway through the second half.   Pin-balling through a mass of humanity in front of the net, the Cougars were the beneficiary of an own goal as the ball eventually caromed into the Allen net off a Red Devil defender.

Barton put the game away nine minutes later as midfielder Mariana Poveda sent a deep pass to the speedy Aliya Marshall who blasted a shot past the Allen keeper giving Barton the final 3-0 margin.
