Barton Women’s Soccer knocks off unbeaten Coffeyville 3-1
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team knocked Coffeyville Community College from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 3-1 victory today in the season’s home opener at the Cougar Soccer Complex. The No. 15 NSCAA ranked Lady Cougars improve to 2-0 in conference play and even their overall record at 2-2. Coffeyville’s loss drops the Red Ravens to 2-1 in conference play and 4-1 overall. Barton will play two games in the upcoming week beginning this Thursday at Cloud County Community College followed a Sunday contest at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Defense prevailed in the first forty-two minutes until Barton counter attacked a Coffeyville corner kick where freshman Aliya Marshall set up Bianca Barron for her third goal of the season. Marshall took a midfield pass from fellow first year player Catlin Simon then dribbled past a Coffeyville defender to feed Barron just outside the eighteen. Barron utilized a tap past the oncoming Raven goalkeeper then launched a 36' blast to the top middle of the net giving Barton the 1-0 lead.
Coffeyville's Shauna Griffin evened the contest less than two minutes later on an unassisted goal as the teams went to halftime locked at 1.
The Lady Cougars struck in the first four minutes of the second half as midfielders Mariana Poveda and Catlin Simon utilized great team passing to set up Molly Hausmann for the game winning goal.
Poveda dished out her second assist of the day with 26:14 remaining feeding Barron for her second goal of the game to give the Lady Cougars the 3-1 deciding score.
Barton outshot Coffeyville 16-11, with eleven of the shots coming in the second half. The goalkeeping tandem of Stephanie Lomas and Kacee Walsh combined for four saves.
