Barton Wrestling goes 7-4 at Grand View Open #GoBarton

The Barton Community College wrestling team compiled a 7-4 overall record on Saturday competing in the 2021 Grand View Open held in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

Fresh off a five-fall performance in the Cougars season opener, Dawson Chavez picked up where he left off notching his sixth pin of the season in the first period over Doane College's Hunter Muse. The sophomore dropped his second bout of the day falling in the third period to Cael Rahnavardi of Northern Iowa. Bouncing back with a 17-4 major decision over Bryce Allen of Central Missouri, Chavez made it two straight majors in the third round of the consolation side with a 15-3 victory over Saint Mary's Trace Evans. Receiving a medical forfeit, Chavez's bid for a medal finish concluded dropping a 3-2 decision to Joel Ostrom of Cloud County Community College.

Jonah Clarke kicked off his season debut receiving an opening round bye before being bounced to the consolation side dropping his first bout on the mat 9-3 to John Colburne of Iowa Lake Community College. Receiving his second bye of the day, Clarke won his next pair of matches with back-to-back first period falls over Shane Duckworth of Missouri Valley and Toby Laurie of Iowa Central. Advancing with a medical forfeit, Clarke's day would conclude in the next round suffering a 19-2 technical fall to Ashton Barker of Iowa State University.

Barton's next stop comes Saturday in the UNK Younes Holiday Inn Open held in Kearney, Nebraska.
