Barton Wrestling takes down ranked opponents in road sweep.
The Barton Community College wrestling team had a successful trip to Colby as the Cougars took down a pair of ranked opponents Thursday at Community Building.
The Cougars began the conference dual with four pins and a major decision to pile up a 43-11 victory over No. 20 Cloud County Community College before chalking up an additional three falls, to go along with, a technical fall and major decision in knocking off the host 19th ranked Trojans of Colby Community College 42-9.
Barton finishes the first round through the conference dual slate at 4-3 in outscoring its opponents 189-123. The Cougars' embark on the second trip around the conference next Tuesday in hosting No. 11 Neosho County Community College and No. 5 Cowley College. Match time set for 4:00 p.m. against Neosho County with a rolling schedule to follow with Neosho County versus Cowley before the Cougars take on Cowley to conclude the evening.
Tuesday's matches include free admission for spectators with safety protocols in place including 25% capacity limit of the Barton Gym and mandatory mask wearing required. The matches will also be streamed live and archived on the Barton Sports Network located at BartonSports.com.

An open 125 division forfeit win for Drew Liles put the Cougars out front but a 6:51 fall from 4th ranked James Davis over Silas Pineda in the 133 division evened the dual at six apiece.
Barton would roll through the next six matches, keyed by Drew Burgoon's 11-3 major decision over the T-bird's Michael Barfuss. Cody Liles (149) and Dawson Chavez (157) each recorded second period falls and following Stephen Duffy's forfeit win, the Cougars posted a pair of first period falls from Bryan Ford (174) and Davontai Robinson (184) to clinch the match. Ayston Perez put the final touches on the dual with a 5-2 win to follow up Cloud's Zach Ferris' 18-1 technical fall over Trezen Doren in the 197 class.

Barton won the first seven matches against the host Trojans, in part, to three falls and two open weight division victories.
D. Liles got the Cougars off right with a 4:26 fall, battling back from a 6-5 first period deficit to Colby's Marco Herrera before scoring a second period escape and a match decisive takedown.
Pineda bounced back from his earlier loss, outscoring the Trojans Zach Tucker 8-2 in the third period to win 14-9.
Burgoon and C. Liles picked up the open weight victories in the 141 and 149 divisions with the lead continuing to increase behind a technical fall sandwiched between two first period falls.
Chavez started the stretch with his second pin of the night, dispatching Noah Kleisen in 1:57 with Duffy rolling up a 9-2 first period win before ending his dual in the second frame with Payton Clark on a dual clinching 17-2 technical fall.
Rolling up two first period falls on the evening, Ford notched his biggest victory of the year after knocking off the Trojans' 8th ranked Kody Hahn with a 2:17 back flattening pushing Barton's lead out to 38-0.
The Trojans took two of the final three matches, the first coming in the 184 division. The Cougars' Robinson led 4-0 early in the match but got caught late midway through the period resulting in a 2:35 pin at the hands of 7th ranked Aiden Smith.
Doren left Colby on a good note, getting the Cougars back in the win column by jumping out to an 8-1 first period lead before rolling on to a 15-3 major decision.
Colby wrapped up the night's scoring in the 285 division as a third period riding time provided the difference in Jared Volcic outlasting Perez 1-0.
