Barton Wrestling goes 1-1 against a pair of No. 11 ranked foes.
The Barton Community College wrestling team took on a pair of 11th ranked opponents Tuesday night in Chanute, Kansas, ending the night with a 37-3 victory over host Neosho Community College following a hard fought loss to Northwest Kansas Technical College 24-18.
The conference dual results moves Barton's record to 2-3 with another pair of conference matches coming next Tuesday in Colby, Kansas, as the Cougars will take on Cloud County Community College and host 19th ranked Colby Community College.
Four Cougars won both their matches as Barton went 9-1 against the Panthers and 4-6 against Northwest Technical.
Leading off the contests at the 125 division was Drew Liles, earning a hard fought 7-6 decision over Northwest's Skyler Hunt before scoring a 4-0 decision over the Panthers' Junior Camacho.
Izaiah Del Valle captured both his 149 class battles, tying the Northwest match up at 6-all with a 9-4 victory over Zion Doyle. Against Neosho, Liles along with Silas Pineda's 2-1 victory in the 133 division over Gavin Collins staked Barton a 6-0 lead, but the Panthers' 3rd ranked Ethan Ewing's victory over Drew Burgoon would be the lone positive result for the home squad as Del Valle shifted momentum back to Barton with a 3-2 win.
Dawson Chavez, who lost a narrow 5-3 decision to 157 division 5th ranked Chinges Tsermaa of Northwest, bounced back to continue Barton's momentum by pinning the Panthers' Brady McDonald in just 59 seconds.
Pinning Northwest's Eli McGee in 2:14 putting Barton out front 12-9, Stephen Duffy completed his unbeaten 165 division night holding on to an 8-5 win over Neosho's Dalton Misener.
Following Duffy's win in the opener, Northwest took the next three matches in clinching the dual. 6th ranked Jacari Deal beat Bryan Ford 12-6 in the 174 division with 184 division 4th ranked Jacobi Deal handling Davontai Robinson in a 2:24 Fall, and Davis Lee clinching the dual catching Trezen Doren with a pin right before the first period buzzer sounded in the 197 division.
The trio of Cougars bounced back in their matches against Neosho as Ford piled up a 10-0 major decision on Brandon Barrager for his first victory of the year, Robinson ending his match against Walker Lowdermilk in a 1:06 back flattening, and Doren coming out on a 3-1 decision over Logan Allen.
Ayston Perez anchored the lineup in the 285 division, improving to 2-1 on the year winning on a 1:24 injury default against the Mavericks' Alexavier Vigil before concluding the evening with a 6:44 Fall over Neosho's Emmanuell Briggs.
In exhibition matches, Anthony Mariche stayed unbeaten in the 125 division moving to 5-0 with a back flattening of Northwest' Brendon Wiseley followed by a 16-1 technical fall over the Panthers' Taimyn Frazier.
Aaron Lenker picked up his first two victories of the year on a 1:28 pin on Northwest's Levi Hancock and second period fall over Neosho's Frazier.
Dre Bonner split each of his exhibition bouts via a pin while Kade Holman took a pair of losses on the night. Dillon ended his lone match of the night with a 3:57 fall over Neosho's Gary Lower.
