No. 19 Barton Wrestling sweeps Cougar Duals with three victories
Forfeiting two weight classes in each of their three duals Tuesday at the Barton Gym, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College Wrestling team came out on top of its matches to win the second annual Cougar Duals. The Cougars allowed just six competitive team points in its opening match against Pratt Community College to win 30-18 but had to rally from four points down in its second match, winning the final two weight classes to pull off a 19-17 thrilling victory over nationally receiving votes Labette Community College. Consecutive pins in the 165 and 174 divisions followed by a technical fall in the 197 secured the victory as Barton would knock off No. 16 ranked Northwest Kansas Technical College 26-19 in the final match of the night. Kendall Biddle, David Kelly, and Ethan Dean each with 3-0 on the day as the Cougars outscored their three opponents 75-54. The Cougars will next compete this Sunday in the Kansas Cup at Fort Hays State University’s Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays, Kansas.

Barton stifles Pratt in 30-18 victory
Forfeiting two weight classes in each of their three duals Tuesday at the Barton Gym, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College Wrestling team opened up the second annual Cougars Duals surrendering just six points the rest of the way earning a 30-18 victory over Pratt Community College.
The Cougars found themselves trailing 15-0 as the result of forfeits at the 125 and 141 weight classes. No. 6 ranked Caysen Smith found himself trailing 6-0 after the first period but after escaping the down position to begin the second was taken down by the Beavers' Demone McClinton setting the tone for the 10-5 loss.
Barton dominated the next two matches with Sean Taborsky earning a 1:46 fall at the 149 division with Christian Rivas following it up with an 8-1 win and Kendall Biddle taking the 165 with a 5-3 decision to cut the Beaver lead to three. David Kelly then gave Barton the lead in the with a 2:36 fall in the 174 but James Ellis put a temporary halt to the Cougars eighteen point run rallying for a late third period point to send the match to extra time where he took down Devon Baker for the 9-7 184 pound victory knotting things up at nineteen.
Ethan Dean received a forfeit win in the 197 with No. 8 ranked Brix Brickey putting the nail in the Beavers' coffin with a 1:13 pin giving Barton the 30-18 victory.
Barton rallies for victory over Labette
With each team all square having two weight classes open, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College Wrestling team rallied from behind for its second straight match of the Cougars Duals coming up on the top side of a 19-17 score to nationally receiving votes Labette Community College.
The Cardinals increased their lead to nine through two matches receiving Barton's forfeit of the 125 division before taking the 133 pound class with DeKhale McFarland knocking off No. 6 Caysen Smith 11-6. Smith took a 6-1 lead into the second period but McFarland escaped the bottom position earning four points with a takedown and near fall to tie it up at six. McFarland would keep Smith scoreless in the final period while earning points on a reversal, another near fall, and a bonus point for riding time.
Following both teams forfeiting the 141 division, Sean Taborsky and Cody Foos battled to a six point tie after the first three minutes of the 149. Taborsky gained an edge in the second getting an escape and reversal with a warning point being awarded for a 10-6 lead to the third. Foos cut the deficit in half with a reversal from the down position but Taborsky would own the rest of the period racking up eleven points for the 20-8 major decision drawing the Cougars to within five.
Danny Conley opened up a five point lead into the third against Christian Rivas before holding on for a 10-4 decision putting the Cardinals back up by eight.
Kendall Biddle began Barton's comeback earning a 4-1 win in the 165 getting a first period take down, a second period escape, and a point awarded for riding time. David Kelly then received the Cardinals' second forfeit squaring the match on open weight classes and giving Barton a 13-12 scoreboard advantage.
The lead was short lived as Devon Baker took the mat against the nation's No. 5 ranked Tristan Ramberg. The Maryland sophomore blitzed Baker to the tune of an 18-0 first period tech fall putting the Cardinals back in front 17-13.
With just two matches remaining, Ethan Dean and Kevin Easterwood matched wits in the 197 division with each only to score an escape from the bottom position before Dean's takedown in sudden death left the dual hinging on the 285 division matchup. Taking a 3-0 first period lead, No. 8 Brix Brickey gave up a reverse to begin the third period but managed to orchestrate his own reversal to hold off Chance Schooler for a dramatic match clinching 6-3 victory.
Consecutive pins power No. 19 Cougar Wrestling to victory over No. 16 Northwest Tech
As it had down in the previous two matches of Tuesday's Cougar Duals at the Barton Gym, the No. 19 ranked Barton Community College Wrestling team piled up twenty unanswered points in the middle weight divisions to knock off No. 16 ranked Northwest Kansas Technical College 26-19 in the final match of the night.
Following both teams forfeiting the opening 125 pound division, No. 6 Caysen Smith earned his first victory of the night in convincing fashion with a 1:13 fall giving Barton the early lead.
Northwest Tech tied it up in the following 141 class with Barton's forfeit before taking the lead on Dominique Evans' 7-4 win over Sean Taborsky. Taking a 4-1 lead after the first, Evans increased the lead to four before Taborsky cut the deficit in half with an early third period take down. Taborsky kept up the attack but Evans fended off the aggression to hold on for a 7-4 win.
Injured in an earlier match, Christian Rivas was unable to go in the 157 giving the Mavericks their second forfeited match to increase the lead to nine.
However the Cougars would own the next four weight divisions going a twenty point surge to secure the match. Kendall Biddle would get things going in the 165 scoring a take down in each of the first two periods going on for a 7-1 win. Barton would then go back-to-back flat backers in with David Kelly getting a 1:37 fall in the 174 followed by Devon Baker's pin in just fifty-eight seconds. Ethan Dean would keep the Cougar momentum rolling into the 197 taking a 5-3 lead into the third before getting a reversal and three four-point near falls in capturing the match and the team dual with a 20-4 tech fall.
Winding up the Cougar Duals was a battle of nationally ranked wrestlers as No. 8 Brix Brickey took on the nation's No. 2 ranked Odgerek Batkhisig. The Mongolian freshman got the better of the Lindsborg redshirt freshman as Batkhisig registered seven takedowns while Brickey was only able to score seven escapes in the 16-7 victory.
