The No. 20 Barton Community College Wrestling team fell to No. 10 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M 41-6 in Tuesday’s dual in Miami, Oklahoma. Getting a defensive take down in the 197 weight class for their lone points, the Cougars Finding competition on the mat against the defending national champions a tough one, the Cougars’ lone points came in the 197 weight class getting a defensive pin. Barton will next return to the mat on Saturday as the Cougars head to Kearney, Nebraska for the UNK Holiday Inn Open.

Ethan Dean picked up the lone victory countering Ruston Duke's takedown resulting in the defensive pin just forty-two seconds in the match. Caysen Smith nearly pulled out the 133 class locked into a 3-all tie headed to the third with Caleb Basma. Starting on bottom to begin the period, Smith took the lead with an escape but following a stalling warning on Basma, the Norseman took down Smith to earn the 5-4 victory.
A wild shootout ensued in the 141 as Great Bend's Cody Liles fell to No. 3 nationally ranked Curtis Burnett 20-10. Going down 2-0, Liles escaped the takedown then maneuvered his own to take a 3-2 lead. Burnett then scored a two-point reversal to end the period tacking on another takedown in the second to double-up the lead before trading reversals to finish the period 8-5. Earning the first of five escapes in the period, Liles simply couldn't counter Burnett's attacks resulting in five takedowns and a twelve point period for the 20-10 major decision.
Howard Johnson led 2-1 after the first period of the 149 before Dustin Hayden earned three in the second on an escape and takedown while earning riding time for the 5-2 victory.
David Kelly's upset of No. 7 Saul Ortiz was uphill from the beginning getting behind on a first period takedown, growing to a five point deficit from an escape and another takedown. Getting an escape to end the second, Kelly again earned an escape from the third period bottom position before another Ortiz takedown pushed the lead to five. Kelly wound up the scoring with a reversal for the final 7-4 tally.
The other matches didn't fare as well as the Cougars lost another major decision in the 125 while succumbing to fall in the 157, 165, 184, and 285.
Barton did come out with a 1-1 record in exhibition matches as Forrest Lalaguna earned a second period fall in the 285 weight class while Skylar Johnson fell 9-8 in the 125.
