18th ranked Barton women’s golf rallies for 2nd place at KJCCC Meet No. 2.
The 18th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team shaved off twenty-five strokes in Saturday's final round for a 2nd place finish at the KJCCC Meet No. 2 held at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
On Friday, the Cougars found themselves in third by two strokes following a 55-over 337 but on Saturday as each member improved, accumulated a 32-over 312 to leapfrog into the second position on a two-day 89-over 649 score. The 9th ranked Conquistadors of Dodge City Community College ran away with the event by forty-two strokes at 47-over 607 on rounds of 312-295 while 15th ranked Garden City Community College fell fifteen strokes behind the Cougars at 104-over 664 on consistent 335-329 cards.
Chomchanok Laparojkit's 5th place led four Cougars in the top ten of the 19-entry field following an opening 83 card with a 5-over 75 round finishing at 18-over 158.
Consistent rounds by Joellen Vogt and Giovanna Tabanag led to 6th and 8th placings respectively, Vogt shooting 82-79 rounds for a 21-over 161 while Tabanag's 83-81 cards produced a 24-over 164.
Diana Alvarado made the largest second round adjustment of twelve strokes, following an opening 89 with a 77 to move up three spots in 10th at 19-over 166.
In the 14th position of the leaderboard was Frida Medellin at 36-over 176 on 90-86 cards with Alayna Crosby and Kadynce Nash tied for the 15th spot at 41-over 181. Crosby joined Alvarado for the team best three-spot climb on the final day, opening with a 96 before a closing round of an eleven stroke improvement 85 while Nash also had a big improvement following a 94 with an 87 card.
The Cougars' have the next ten days in preparation for the conference's third meet of the season taking place April 9-10 at Garden City's challenging Southwind Country Club.
