The Barton Community College women's golf team won their second tournament of their first three fall meets behind a program fourth best two-round score to capture the Central Kansas Classic at McPherson's Turkey Creek Golf Course.

In a rain filled opening round on Monday, the Cougars carded a 311 to lead by eleven before running away from the three other teams with a closing 309 to widen the gap to a twenty-six stroke victory.

The 620 combined two-round score tied the 2018-19 squad's score posted at the Barton Spring Invitational in Great Bend.

Barton women's golfer Butpapaporn Sukterm wins 2023 Central Kansas Classic Continuing her dominance of golf courses and the field, freshman Butpapaporn Sukterm racked up 6-under 138 score behind 70 and 68 cards on the par 72 course for her third victory of the season.

In a three-way tie for the runner-up position of the thirty-competitor field were Andrea Peraza and Valentina Leyva as the sophomores moved up a spot in final day action. Peraza posted a collegiate low 2-over 74 in Monday's soggy conditions to card a 79 in final round action while Leyva followed her 75 with a 78 to move into the tie.

Finishing in 20th overall, Frida Mondragon bounced back from a 97 in the rain to make the most dramatic final round improvement of thirteen strokes for an 84 to finish at 37-over 181.

Alayna Crosby stayed steady with 92 and 93 rounds for a 41-over 185 for 22nd place while Brenna Ruyle was Barton's second-best final day stroke improvement in recording a 103 and 92 in placing 26th at 51-over 195.

Peyton Graber began the tournament with a 113 but did not complete Tuesday's final round.

Barton will skip next week's competition in lieu of assisting with the College's sponsored 15th Annual Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament held on Saturday, getting back to the links September 25-26 at the Hesston Golf Course Shootout.
