Sukterm sets pair of program records, Barton women's golf finishes second at Kansas Women's Intercollegiate #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's golf team placed second Wednesday at the Kansas Women's Intercollegiate held at Hutchinson's Carey Park Golf Course.

The Cougars led by a slim two strokes behind a solid 302 on Tuesday but despite carding just a one stroke worse 303, was caught at the finish line by Iowa Western Community College's 295 to win by three over the seven team field.

Making headlines was the play of freshman Butpapaporn Sukterm, opening what would be a record setting event with a 3-under 68 to lead by one. Returning for Wednesday afternoon's final round, Sukterm was as hot as the temperatures in blistering the course firing a 9-under 62 for a twelve stroke victory. Falling just one stroke of tying the course best round by a female athlete, Sukterm's program record round also recorded a best two-round score of 12-under 130.

Barton had just one other player in the top ten of the 51-competitor field as Valentina Leyva continued her strong play of her sophomore season in stringing 76 and 77 rounds for an 11-over 153 in tying for 8th place.

Other results:
Andrea Peraza +17, 159 (77-82)
Frida Mondragon +25, 167 (85-82)
Alayna Crosby +24, 166 (81-85)
Brenna Ruyle +44, 186 (95-91)

Barton returns to the links next Monday for the two-day 9th Annual Central Kansas Classic held at McPherson's Turkey Creek Golf Course.
