Competing as the lone NJCAA team in the field, the Barton Community College women's golf team placed fifth today at the Tempest Intercollegiate held at the Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater, Texas.

The Cougars took on the challenging Par 72, 5851-yard course in posting 331 and 335 rounds for a 90-over 666 combined score over two days of action. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor ran away with the team title at 31-over 607 as the Cougars trailed East Texas Baptist University's 79-over 655 for the fourth spot but well ahead of sixth place finisher Hardin-Simmons University's 131-over 707. Cal Lutheran University grabbed the second spot at 68-over 644 while Concordia University (Texas) was six strokes back in third place at 76-over 652.

Three of the five Cougars made a climb up the final leaderboard including Mathanee Pandee in carding 78-77 rounds to move up two spots into a tie for fourth in the 45-player field at 11-over 155.  Pandee recorded a tournament second best five birdies in the 36-holes, five coming on Tuesday including a pair on par fives in leading the field at 1-under on the long holes.

Climbing eight spots on Tuesday, Pornnapa Inmee, who claimed the Barton Invite title a week ago, posted 83-80 scores in placing tied for 12th at 19-over 163.

In 13th behind an opening 9-over 81, Pawinee Sukasem slid down the board in Tuesday's final round with an 87 to finish tied for 22nd at 24-over 168.

Paulina Villavicencio carded 89-91 scores for a 31st tie at 36-over 180 while Matilyn Newman took six strokes off Monday's 102 with a 96 in placing 40th at 54-over 198.

The Cougars will have some time before heading back south for its next meet, traveling to Enid, Oklahoma, October 18-19 for the 6th Annual Ranger Fall Invitational held at Meadowlake Golf Course.
